Black Walnut Tincture

Tincture of green hull of black walnut (Juglans nigra)
produced using nuts from English trees,
alcohol from organic rye grain and local spring water.

Tincture strength 1:3 in 50% alcohol –
corresponds to Dr Hulda Clark’s extra strength tincture

The black walnut tree is native to Eastern N America and has been cultivated in Europe for several centuries

Actions

Black walnut has become well known for its anti-parasitic actions from the work of Dr Hulda Clark.
It is also reported to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, blood cleansing and laxative effects.
Traditionally it has been used to treat constipation, gout, rheumatism, glandular disturbances, mouth sores, herpes, warts and skin conditions such as acne and eczema.

Active ingredients

The two main listed ingredients are tannins and a quinine called juglone.
In the plant the role of the juglone is to prevent other plants from growing within the tree’s root zone hence its ability to kill many other organisms.
It has a characteristic odour and colour and will stain materials on contact.

Colour

As the nut matures on the tree, the hard nut shell is surrounded by a soft, fleshy covering, called the hull. Hulls of ripe nuts fresh from the tree are bright green, as they age they turn black and disintegrate. Our tincture is made from fresh nuts with green hulls only. The final product can vary from emerald green through pale yellow to golden brown. In our experience this depends upon several factors including the age and location of the tree and the weather conditions during the growing season. A tincture that starts off any of these colours is active. As the tincture is used the part remaining in the bottle will darken and eventually turn black due to the effects of the oxygen in the air upon it, this is still active.
